Authenticity: A Capsule Wardrobe Recap
Big things happening here at the end of summer. I’ve gone two weeks with a capsule wardrobe and two weeks without coca cola. Basically at this point I’m feeling like a whole new person.
One of the things I really like about having a capsule wardrobe is that I feel more authentically “me.” It’s sort of a confusing statement, I know. I’ll try to explain! I think that with all the fast fashion and different style trends out there, it’s easy to get sucked into a certain style – one that your friends might wear, one that your favorite style icons might wear, one that isn’t something you’d actually wear. Long story short: with a capsule wardrobe, I dress more for myself and less to fit in with people and trends around me.
I’ve always been drawn to brands like Madewell because of the comfort of their clothes. They weren’t overly tight or trendy. They were classic pieces that could go through a variety of seasons and would always make me feel casual, pulled together and cute. There are a lot of Madewell pieces in my capsule wardrobe, and one of my favorite outfits this week is the one I wore to happy hour at the Elephant on Friday.
I loved this look so much because it’s something that transitioned perfectly from work to play. It made me feel comfortable in the heat and I loved the combination of the oversized button down with my new haircut. This look felt authentic to a personal style of mine that I’ve recently forgotten. It’s a personal style that showed influences from my grandmother, my major professor in all things style. It’s a classic look that I probably wouldn’t have worn “out” recently but I’m so glad I did.
Getting in touch with your personal style roots is important. It helps you feel true to yourself! What are some elements of your personal style that you’ve lost touch with?
